In honor of its 10th anniversary, My Hero Academia is preparing to reveal an exciting new release this month, giving fans another reason to look forward to the beloved franchise.

The timing of the release has caught the attention of My Hero Academia fans, who have continued to follow the franchise beyond its traditional manga and TV anime releases over the years. The announcement comes at an interesting time for the franchise, as activity around My Hero Academia has gradually begun to slow down following the conclusion of its main anime story in December 2025. With this new release set to be announced, the My Hero Academia franchise appears to have more planned for its 10th anniversary year. However, the caveat is that My Hero Academia fans will have to wait until mid-September for the first video concerning this 10th anniversary special release.

My Hero Academia Reveals New Class 1-A Figures

My Hero Academia continues to mark 10 years since the anime first premiered. Over the past decade, the series has grown into one of the biggest modern anime franchises, introducing fans to characters such as Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki. To celebrate 10 years of the My Hero Academia anime, Banpresto is preparing a new series of crane game figures featuring the students of Class 1-A. The upcoming collection is particularly special because it marks the first time the entire class has been featured together in a single figure series. A new image has also been released showing the complete collection when the figures are placed together. While fans will have to wait a little longer to collect the full set, the project is already giving fans a look at how the figures will appear when displayed together.

The project also has a special website dedicated to the anniversary figures. According to the announcement, new updates will be revealed on the 16th of each month, which has been dubbed “Hero Day.” The first update will arrive on September 16 with a special video showing the making of the figures. The figures will not be released as one complete set, however. Instead, individual figures will be available as prizes through crane games across Japan starting in 2027.

Titled Quit Laughing, Shijima, or Warawanaideyo Shijima-san, the one-shot appeared in the Double Issue 37/38 of Weekly Shonen Jump on August 10, 2026, marking Horikoshi’s comeback to the magazine within a relatively short period of time. Spanning over 61-pages, this relatively long chapter marked Horikoshi’s first project since the conclusion of My Hero Academia, which began in 2014 and released its final chapter in August 2024. The story concluded with the defeat of Shigaraki and All for One and the ascension of the beloved MHA cast to Pro Hero rank.

The story of Quit Laughing, Shijima is an interesting change from My Hero Academia, as unlike Horikoshi’s popular superhero series, the new project explores the horror genre and is described as “Shijima is always happy and laughing. But what is her dark secret...? Boy meets girl horror one-shot!” With Quit Laughing, Shijima, fans get a chance to see Horikoshi take his storytelling in a very different direction.

Horikoshi’s horror one-shot has already seen a strong response, ranking, per Shueisha itself, as the second-most popular series among readers in the previous week. It ranked just behind One Piece and ahead of other major modern shōnen titles such as Dandadan, Spy x Family, and Sakamoto Days. With such a strong response, Quit Laughing, Shijima could have the potential to become a full-fledged manga series in the future. If Horikoshi decides to continue the story, it could also eventually make its way to anime.

Considering how successful My Hero Academia became, many fans expected Horikoshi to return with a full-length manga series instead of a one-shot. The series sold over 100 million copies worldwide and became one of the most popular manga of its generation. Because of this, fans were naturally curious about what Horikoshi would work on after My Hero Academia. For example, with Jujutsu Kaisen, creator Gege Akutami returned in 2025 with a new manga sequel to his original series, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. The series ended up being very successful, and while it was not exactly a full-length manga, it still ran for more than three volumes and gave fans new content for several months.

That said, Horikoshi’s one-shot spans 61 pages, making it quite a substantial release for a short story. In fact, its length is roughly equal to three full-fledged chapters of a regular Weekly Shōnen Jump manga. This makes Horikoshi’s return to the magazine even more interesting. Besides, his decision to try a short horror story gives him a chance to explore a different type of story before taking on another long-running manga.

Horikoshi’s new one-shot is not the only recent release keeping My Hero Academia fans busy. On August 3 at 12:00 AM JST, the franchise also received a new anime episode titled “I Am A Hero Too,” based on a one-shot chapter about Eri that Horikoshi originally published in the My Hero Academia Ultra Age Fan Book. The new My Hero Academia OVA was first shown during an advance screening at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles before its official release in Japan. It also serves as an emotional conclusion to Eri’s character arc. Eri was rescued by Izuku Midoriya, Mirio Togata, and the other heroes during the Shie Hassaikai Arc. Since then, she has pursued her dream of becoming a musician.

I Am A Hero Too was simulcast on Crunchyroll, with both subtitles and an English dub. It was My Hero Academia’s one more chance to focus on the smaller stories that made the series special. Rather than introducing another major villain or conflict, the episode puts the spotlight on Eri and her personal growth, making it a fitting addition after the anime’s conclusion.
